Description Of KOH-Impregnated Activated Carbon

Potassium hydroxide-impregnated desulfurization activated carbon is a kind of activated carbon prepared by the chemical activation method, which utilizes potassium hydroxide (KOH) as the activator, and increases the specific surface area and pore structure of the activated carbon through impregnation and heating treatment, thus improving its adsorption performance.

This activated carbon is particularly suitable for removing of acid gases such as hydrogen sulfide, sulfur dioxide, nitrogen oxides, hydrogen chloride and hydrogen fluoride.

Features Of KOH-Impregnated Activated Carbon

Potassium hydroxide-activated activated carbon is highly microporous and can improve the specific surface area of the carbon surface and the formation of -OH functional groups, which can remove acid gases such as hydrogen sulfide very well.

Its characteristics are as follows:

  • High Adsorption Performance: Through impregnation with potassium hydroxide (KOH), the specific surface area and pore structure of the activated carbon are significantly enhanced, thus improving its adsorption performance.
  • Microporosity: KOH-impregnated activated carbon is highly microporous, which results in excellent performance during adsorption.
  • Oxidation Reaction: The presence of oxygen helps to promote the oxidation of H2S to elemental sulfur during the adsorption of H2S on KOH-impregnated activated carbon, thus improving the desulfurization efficiency.

Applications Of KOH-Impregnated Activated Carbon

Potassium hydroxide-impregnated activated carbon is specially designed for the removal of acid gases. The areas of application are as follows:

  • Purification of biogas
  • Natural gas desulfurization
  • Sewage storage tank venting
  • Filter press rooms
  • Laboratory fume hood filters
  • Electronics manufacturing facilities
